Welcome To Our World 2006 |
FSC had the great honor of being included as one of the important members of the small business community. The Professional Beauty Federation held it's annual "Welcome To Our World" Event and we were invited to choose a few of our top students to make the trip to Washington, DC. The students had the opportunity to "make over" Congressional representatives and their staffs. Congress received manicures, massages and haircuts from the salon owners, licensed professionals and students who attended.
While the students were making over the representatives, they were able to talk to them about the issues that are critical to their future business. The students were also able to give their thoughts on how the Small Business Tax Equalization and Compliance Act will impact their career, if it is passed into law. Instructor Theresa Roys said, "Being able to give the representatives our thoughts about a bill they were trying to pass, makes us feel like a real part of history". The students were very honored to be selected for this exciting industry event. They made a fun day of it by riding the metro, going to lunch before the event, and socializing with other industry professionals who were also invited. Ashley Degen said, "It was very inspiring to talk with salon owners about the professional opportunities available in this career".
FSC provides the students with as many extracurricular activities as possible to help make them some of the most highly sought after graduates. |

Essations Product Demonstration at FSC |
The Frederick School of Cosmetology was fortunate to have Mr. Isaac Scott visit us again and educate our students and staff about a product line called Essations. This product line is used by our school in our full service clinic so we invite Mr. Scott back regularly to provide us with new ideas and techniques. We are always pleased to learn more about Essations since it is one of the safest to use when relaxing a client's hair. One of FSC's goals is to instill in our students the importance of maintaining healthy hair.
Mr. Scott spent many hours teaching the students about the different relaxers, shampoos, conditioners and styling products that Essations offers and what makes this line of products one of the best. Each student vigorously took notes and asked many questions in order to help them prepare for working in a salon one day. After all the student's questions were answered, Mr. Scott did a hands on demonstration so the students could see the step by step process and understand which products to use in different hair situations. Relaxers are a part of the practical test that all cosmetology students must pass in order to get a license in the State of Maryland. We are very thankful to Mr. Scott for all the knowledge and experience he has continually shared with our students and staff. |

International Beauty Show in New York City 2006 |
The Frederick School of Cosmetology attended the International Beauty Show at the Jacob Javitz Convention Center in New York City. The large convention center is filled with major platform artists, company vendors, dancers and models showing off hairstyles and fashion. The show is so packed with demonstrations and classes that the students could easily spend all day there and still not see everything that is offered. The students did take a break during the day to do some shopping since the vendors offer greatly discounted prices for their supplies. This year student Shereen Carsten as well as former instructor Kathy Rice had their hair cut on stage for Farouk systems. See additional pictures. The students also took a bus tour of New York and a boat cruise around the Statue of Liberty and then did a little personal shopping. Later everyone had dinner at Bubba Gump's Shrimp Company Restaurant and then went to see Hairspray on Broadway. The show was wonderful! See additional pictures. The students had such a fun and educational experience that FSC will continue to make this an annual trip! |

The Frederick School of Cosmetology attended the International Beauty Show at the Jacob Javitz Convention Center in New York City. Major platform hair artists and hair companies performed at the show. It was incredible. In fact Jennifer VanSant was asked to be a hair model on the stage for Paul Mitchell Systems. Ashley Sell and Stephanie Munday had their hair cut live on stage by hairstylists for Farouk Systems. The students were also able to purchase many items for their career at discounted prices from the vendors.
Since FSC is a Redken Premier School and the students use Redken products, they got to tour the Redken Exchange and see where advanced level classes are held. They also took a bus tour around the city to see the highlights. Students stopped and had lunch in SoHo and attended the broadway show "Phantom of the Opera". A great time was had by all. The students had such a fun and educational experience that FSC will make this an annual trip! |

The Frederick School of Cosmetology attended the International Beauty Show at the Jacob Javitz Convention Center in New York City. Major platform hair artists and hair companies performed at the show. It was incredible. In fact Victoria Harter was asked to be a hair model on the stage for Paul Mitchell Systems.
They put theatrical makeup (including false eyelashes) and a wild outfit on her. "Tashi" did her hair. He's quite famous in the hair world. She has a one of a kind designer haircut and color. Some of the other students met Fabio and got his autograph. Later that evening we took a special boat cruise to watch the Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary Ocean Liners leave the New York Harbor. We witnessed a fireworks display as both of the ocean liners passed the Statue of Liberty. Monday, we did a walking tour around Times Square. The students were lucky enough to be asked to sit in the audience for MTV's TRL. Overall, it was a great time. We can't wait to do it again. |
