The Frederick School of Cosmetology attended the International Beauty Show at the Jacob Javitz Convention Center in New York City. The large convention center is filled with major platform artists, company vendors, dancers and models showing off hairstyles and fashion. The show is so packed with demonstrations and classes that the students could easily spend all day there and still not see everything that is offered. The students did take a break during the day to do some shopping since the vendors offer greatly discounted prices for their supplies. This year student Shereen Carsten as well as former instructor Kathy Rice had their hair cut on stage for Farouk systems. See additional pictures. The students also took a bus tour of New York and a boat cruise around the Statue of Liberty and then did a little personal shopping. Later everyone had dinner at Bubba Gump's Shrimp Company Restaurant and then went to see Hairspray on Broadway. The show was wonderful! See additional pictures. The students had such a fun and educational experience that FSC will continue to make this an annual trip! |

The Frederick School of Cosmetology attended the International Beauty Show at the Jacob Javitz Convention Center in New York City. Major platform hair artists and hair companies performed at the show. It was incredible. In fact Jennifer VanSant was asked to be a hair model on the stage for Paul Mitchell Systems. Ashley Sell and Stephanie Munday had their hair cut live on stage by hairstylists for Farouk Systems. The students were also able to purchase many items for their career at discounted prices from the vendors.
Since FSC is a Redken Premier School and the students use Redken products, they got to tour the Redken Exchange and see where advanced level classes are held. They also took a bus tour around the city to see the highlights. Students stopped and had lunch in SoHo and attended the broadway show "Phantom of the Opera". A great time was had by all. The students had such a fun and educational experience that FSC will make this an annual trip! |

The Frederick School of Cosmetology attended the International Beauty Show at the Jacob Javitz Convention Center in New York City. Major platform hair artists and hair companies performed at the show. It was incredible. In fact Victoria Harter was asked to be a hair model on the stage for Paul Mitchell Systems.
They put theatrical makeup (including false eyelashes) and a wild outfit on her. "Tashi" did her hair. He's quite famous in the hair world. She has a one of a kind designer haircut and color. Some of the other students met Fabio and got his autograph. Later that evening we took a special boat cruise to watch the Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary Ocean Liners leave the New York Harbor. We witnessed a fireworks display as both of the ocean liners passed the Statue of Liberty. Monday, we did a walking tour around Times Square. The students were lucky enough to be asked to sit in the audience for MTV's TRL. Overall, it was a great time. We can't wait to do it again. |

The Frederick School of Cosmetology hosted its first annual "Prom on a Budget" competition where 5 student teams used their newly acquired technical skills, combined with their creative flare to compete for free tickets to the New York City to see the International Beauty Show.
Team Sassy Styles placed first. Ranked for their creativity, use of products, team work, and professionalism, Team Sassy Styles edged just above the rest to win the 2004 competition. To assist in the competition, we asked area salon professionals to assist in reviewing the work of the teams. The industry professional judges included Barbara Montgomery from JC Penney, Amy Rippeon from Cathy Yarbough from Beauty Bar Salon. The "Prom on a Budget" competition was a fundraising event designed to raise money for a trip to the International Beauty Show in New York City. Frederick School of Cosmetology would like to thank the teams, parents, judges, models, and visitors for making the event a success, and enabling the students to attend an important industry even in New York City. |
